SUSTAINABLE
BUILDING
WALKERS LINE
Over the years, we've introduced many sustainability programs in our stores to reduce our
environmental impact and positively impact our communities. In September, we completed a
renovation at our Walkers Line store to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy
management. Here are the sustainability features you'll notice at our Walkers Line store.
CO, Refrigeration
We've retrofitted the store
to have a CO, refrigeration
system - the most climate-
friendly solution available.
We have these systems
in 40% of our stores.
Solar Panels
Solar panels at Walkers Line
generated 137,200 kWh
of electricity in 2020
enough energy to power
14 homes for a year!
Combined Cooling,
Heating & Power (CCHP)
This system helps reduce our
reliance on the power grid &
acts as a back-up generator
allowing us to prevent food
waste from occurring due
to a power outage.
Organic Waste
All organic waste is sent to
anaerobic digestion where
it is turned into energy &
fertilizer. We are aiming
to divert 90% of all waste
from landfill by 2025.
LED Lighting
LED lighting has been
installed throughout the
store & in the parking lot.
